Tomato Rasam

This is a recipe I make every other day. The reason is the simplicity of the mere creation , the benefits and the different usages. Well, things are getting a little too technical now

. The bottom line, my family loves it !!


Preparation time : 15 Min

Cooking time : 15 Min

                                                                 Ingredients :

Tomato : 2 Large (Tamatar) 
Tamarind : 1/2 lemon size (Imli)
Asafoetida - 1 pinch (Hing)
Turmeric - Pinch (Haldi)
Whole red Chilli - 2 pcs (Akka Lal Mirch)






Rasam Mix
Whole Coriander/seeds : 3 Tbsp (Akka Dhania)
Cumin : 2 tsp (Jeera)
Garlic : 4 pods (Lahsun)
Black Pepper : 2 tsp (Kali Miri)
Red chilli Whole : 1 (Akka lal Mirch)
Asafoetida : 2 Pinch (Hing)
* Grind them dry and store for more than a month in deep freeze

Procedure :

1. In a Pan , add 1 cup water. Put in the chopped tomato with the tamarind.

2. Let it cook for 5-7 min.When it cools ,make a paste.

3. Meanwhile, powder the ingredients for rasam. For 4 people , you can take 3 tsp of the powder.

4. In a pan, add oil. Saute Mustard seeds, Asafoetida, Whole Red Chilli(2 pcs),Turmeric and  Curry leaves.

5. Add 4 cups of water and pour the tomato paste to this. Cook and allow it to simmer for 10 min.

6. Garnish with Coriander leaves.

7. Altrenate : You can saute with Ghee/Butter instead of oil. The aroma really goes well with kids.

Serve with Steamed Rice and Appalam.
